About

Delgado’s welding program challenges students to master specific skill-related competencies set forth by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) as well as our Welding Advisory Committee which consists of business and industry representatives from the Greater New Orleans region. This program is currently offered at the River Park and Jefferson campuses of Delgado.

The site has a well-equipped shop area that enables students to receive hands-on instruction in the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core metal arc welding (FCAW), and gas tungsten metal arc welding (GTAW) processes.

After successful completion of this program and satisfying the requirements as set forth by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), students are eligible to receive certification for NCCER Welding Levels 1 and 2 and AWS Sense effective Spring 2017.

The average salary for a welder in Louisiana is $22.99 per hour (LA Workforce Commission, Occupational Wage Data, 2016). Choosing welding as a career gives you a wide variety of options for employment. Most welders work in manufacturing industries that produce transportation equipment, industrial machinery and equipment, and fabricated metal products. Welders are also employed in the construction of buildings and bridges, and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants, railroads, and refineries.

The Welding program offers the following Certificates of Technical Studies (C.T.S.):

  • Flux Core & Gas Metal Arc Welder,
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welder
  • and Gas Tungsten Arc Welder.

Admissions

   Standardized Test

Delgado Community College is an open admissions institution, as established by the Louisiana Legislature and approved by the Board of Regents and Louisiana Community and Technical College System. Any person above the age of 16, regardless of prior academic preparation, may be fully admitted to Delgado as long as the following criteria are satisfied:

  1. The person has completed and submitted an application for admission. As well as these two requirements, which will be part of your admissions process (and we can help)
  2. The person has provided proof of selective service registration as required by Louisiana.
  3. The person has satisfied the requirements of Louisiana related to the immunization of persons entering school
