About

This program ranges from 24 to 61 credits of coursework, depending on the type of certification or degree you are seeking. Nunez Community College provides a diverse offering of programs, including Louisiana Transfer Degrees and career and technical education (CTE) programs.

The aerospace program is a relatively new program having begun in August of 2018.

Daytime and Nighttime classes are offered.

You can begin the program in Fall, Spring, or Summer.

The program trains you in skills that can be used across various manufacturing industries, not just aerospace. The Aerospace Manufacturing Technology program provides mostly hands-on lab training with some lectures that allow students to develop the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the tasks required of an entry-level Aerospace Manufacturing Technician.

Developed with the support of industry including Boeing who is participating in manufacturing the largest rocket ever at the nearby Michoud Facility as part of NASA’s Orion project.

The Aerospace Manufacturing Technology program will be the only program dedicated to Aerospace Manufacturing Technicians in the state of Louisiana.

The curriculum was designed for Aerospace Manufacturing Technicians, with content and courses mapped directly to expected job performance.

Is this a career path I'll enjoy?

Aerospace manufacturing technicians work with their hands to build, assemble, install and test craft that will exit the Earth’s atmosphere, ie spacecraft. If you prefer working with your hands instead of sitting at a desk and in front of a computer this is a great fit for you. Two of our closest partners are NASA & Boeing, and together we are building the largest rocket ever at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East. Median pay: $31 an hour.

What skills and credentials will I gain?

There are 3 exit points included in this program:

Certificate of Technical Studies in Aerospace Manufacturing Technology consisting of 24 hours of mainly electrical and mechanical skills training. After achieving the CTS students can decide to begin a paid apprenticeship at MAF where they would work 8 hour days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while continuing to go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Technical Diploma in Aerospace Manufacturing Technology consisting of 46 hours of coursework.

Associate of Applied Science in Aerospace Manufacturing Technology consisting of 61 hours of coursework.
